One of the most important lessons you learn as a child is to think before you speak. I’m sure many of you had this statement plastered on a classroom wall when you were younger.
T– Is it True?
H– Is it Helpful?
I– Is it Inspiring?
N– Is it Necessary?
K– Is it Kind?
As cheesy as the statement may seem, if everyone (including adults) were to really take it to heart there could be so much less drama in the world. Or I would like to hope so. But what if we also started to teach people to think before you eat? Would people then become more aware of what they put into their bodies, instead of grabbing the first thing they see?
I know that if I was to hold out a slice of pepperoni pizza to a personal training client and tell them they would have to jump rope for 35 minutes just to burn off the calories from that one slice, they would definitely start to think about if they really wanted to eat it or not. Or if they were to eat a Big Mac from McDonalds they would have to lift weights for 195 minutes. Do you think they would they still want to eat it? I don’t think so!
Below I have compiled a list of a few popular food items, and what it would take to burn off the calories for each. It certainly makes you stop and think before you eat. Is it healthy? Is it necessary? Is it worth it? I know we all have our weaknesses when it comes to food. Mine is chips and salsa…they are so addicting! But, the important thing to learn is not to let it consume you and get carried away. I believe you should enjoy what you love, but know what it takes to burn it all off. Let’s all take the time to step back, think and take charge of your body and overall health.
