Every room longs to tell a story. Make yours a tale of health and confidence by creating a home gym with my Home Gym Essentials!
There is a frequent misconception about working out. Often people think you have to have a gym membership, endless free time, or a lot of space to make a home gym. Sure, space is helpful and certain equipment can boost your results, but neither are a requirement to get fit.
A home gym can be a godsend not only for a stay at home mom, but anyone with a busy schedule or someone who doesn't like dealing with a crowded fitness center.
I love that there are no closing hours, no waiting endlessly for bodybuilders to move off of equipment, no need to pay for a babysitter to watch your kids, and my personal favorite...no nauseating smells, thanks to The NEW Atmosphere Collection™ Fine Home Fragrance by Glade®. It is so helpful and convenient!
As many of you know, I am currently visiting family while my husband is deployed. And since, it's difficult for me to find time to get to an actual gym due to working from home and chasing a toddler around, I knew I needed to get a home gym set up.
Making use of the space available in my parents house was important to me (even if it was in their walk-in closet). With the following must-have Home Gym Essentials, you can make any room an amazing workout haven!
A set of 2-4 different dumbbell weights: You don't have to go all out and buy a set of 10-20 dumbbell weights. Starting with just 2-4 different weights is great. I recommend for beginners to start with 8 lb, 10 lb, and 15 lb weights.
Yoga/ Exercise Mat: This is an absolute must for a home gym. It is great for added comfort when performing floor routines. Plus, You don’t want to be sweating all over your carpet.
TV or Stereo: If you need a little motivation or distraction while working out, having a tv or stereo in your home gym will be your best bet. I can't workout without some type of music to keep me going.
Stability Ball: A stability ball is a great addition to your daily workouts. It challenges your balance and helps strengthen your stabilizing muscles and joints.
Mirror: Don't simply admire yourself in the mirror...use it to your benefit for proper posture. Having one in your gym will not only make your room feel bigger, but it will help with form when lifting weights. It doesn't have to be a big expensive one either, a cheap floor length mirror works just fine.
Cardio Machine or Bike Stand for regular bike: If you are able to purchase a treadmill, elliptical or indoor bike, then more power to you. Personally, I have a bike stand for my road bike that I absolutely love. I am able to get a good cardio session in without purchasing an expensive piece of equipment. But while I'm at my parents house, I am using their indoor bike. Use what you got!
Home Fragrance: It may seem crazy but one thing I HAVE to have in my home gym, is a jar candle from the New Atmosphere Collection™ Fine Home Fragrance by Glade®. Just because it's a gym and you are working out, doesn't mean your room needs to smell bad. The design and aesthetic of your home gym reflects you and what you love. Why not make it smell nice too? The N°1 Enraptured™ (includes scents of jasmine and cedarwood) and N°3 Free™ (includes scents of coconut and beach woods) are my new fav. Both come in a jar candle, 4.2 oz. or PlugIns® Scented Oil 2 ct.
What's awesome, is that even though these new Glade® products may seem like something you would have to find in a specialty or decor store, you can easily find them in the air care aisle at your local Kroger banner stores.
Bench or Step: Whether you have a bench, step or stairs, all of them can be used for many exercises. It adds an extra challenge to leg workouts and can even be used for tricep dips. If you purchase a step from a fitness store, you can always buy extra risers for added height.
