Cooking with Kids: Safety, Recipes and Must-Haves

Cooking with Kids: Safety, Recipes and Must-Haves

When it comes to cooking with kids, it's easier said than done.  My oldest son is just now getting to the age where I am allowing him to help me with little tasks in the kitchen.  He loves to count ingredients, stir and roll cookie dough into balls.  But, I have yet to introduce how to properly & safely cut things.

Luckily, I am not the only one trying to learn how to cook with kids.  Below are some great posts from other bloggers who have been around the block once or twice.

If you are looking for perfect tools or must haves in the kitchen, check out this post from GoGoGo Gourmet about The Learning Tower. She discusses how convenient and safe this stand is while you are in the kitchen.  It's much easier than trying to cook while holding your kid on your hip, or constantly worrying they may fall off a counter or chair.

I know mom always said not to play with your food.  But this Tasting Cooking Game via Eating Richly is a great way to develop your child's palate.  Introduce different flavors to them and have them explain what they are tasting, whether it be salty, sweet or sour.

This next post on How to Cook & Bake with Your Kids via The Gingered Whisk is all about letting your kids in the kitchen.

Like I said before, sometimes it's easier to do everything yourself.  But, this post discusses how it's okay to let your kids make mistakes and a mess from time to time.  They will learn independence and life skills.  Jenni also includes some great tips based on age, as well as some simple recipes for the kids.

Last but not least, this recipe for Homemade Pepperoni Pizza is a great way to get your kids in the kitchen. Samantha from My Kitchen Love shares some great tips and tricks to help get kids cooking.  If pizza and kids aren't the perfect match, I don't know what is!
