The subtle sweetness of this Honey Oat Artisan Bread will keep you coming back for more!
Never could I image being someone that baked their own bread. But here we are.... Some of my most popular recipes are my homemade breads. Jalapeno Cheddar Artisan Bread, Gluten Free Everything Bagel Bread, Gluten Free Focaccia and Easy Vegan Chocolate Bread to name a few.
This new recipe for homemade Honey Oat Artisan Bread is sure to be a new favorite! It's easy to bake, perfectly soft and slightly sweetened with a bit of natural honey.
WHAT INGREDIENTS DO I NEED FOR HONEY OAT ARTISAN BREAD?
- 3 ½ cups bread flour
- 1 cup oats + more for topping
- 1 packet of active dry yeast (2 ¼ tsp)
- 1 ½ teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoon honey
- 2 cups water - warm
HOW TO I MAKE HONEY OAT ARTISAN BREAD?
STEP 1: In a small bowl, stir together warm water and honey. Set aside.
STEP 2: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, oats, yeast and salt. Add the honey-water to the dry ingredients. Stir well, cover with a towel or plastic wrap and let it rise for 2 hours.
STEP 3: After rising, place the dough on a piece of floured parchment paper. Shape the dough into a circular loaf. Top with additional oats, then cover again for another 30 minutes.
STEP 4: Preheat oven to 420 degrees F with your Dutch oven inside. Once the oven reaches temp, carefully remove the Dutch oven and place your bread dough inside (with the parchment paper). Cover and bake for 30 minutes. After the initial 30 minutes, remove the lid and bake for another 5-10 minutes or until you have a golden crust.
PREHEAT DUTCH OVEN:
As mentioned in my previous bread recipes that use a Dutch oven, be sure to preheat it in your oven. Placing the bread dough into the warm Dutch oven results in a deliciously crispy crust.
STEP 5: Carefully remove the Dutch oven and let the bread rest on a wire rack until it is completely cooled.

Are these regular oats or quick oats?
Julie says
I used old-fashioned oats. Not sure if much of the texture would really change with quick oats. Give it a try and let me know!

Overall great recipe, but a problem I encountered when baking was that the inside of the loaf was still doughy and undercooked, even after an additional ten minutes of baking. Nothing a toaster couldn't fix! Even with the small inconvenience the process was enjoyable and I would be sure to try to make it again!

I made this bread today. when I took it out of the oven, it looked exactly as yours. It tasted very good. The loaf was a little bigger then I expected. We are going to freeze half the loaf.
Thank you for the recipe. I will definitely bake this again.

can this be made gluten free? Thankyou

I have not tried to make this specific recipe gluten free. I'm sure you could test it with some gluten free flour, but the consistency may change a bit.
