WHAT INGREDIENTS DO I NEED?
- One 28 oz can pinto beans
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- ½ teaspoon cumin
- ½ teaspoon chili powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- dash of salt/pepper
- ½ cup water
- Optional additions: fresh cilantro, queso fresco
HOW DO I MAKE HOMEMADE REFRIED BEANS?
STEP 1: Pour your beans in a small pot (with the liquid).
STEP 2: Stir in all the remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer.
STEP 3: Mash the beans using a potato masher, until you have broken down most of the beans and the mixture begins to thicken. Continue to simmer for another 10 minutes.
STEP 4: Remove from heat and let cool. The beans will continue to thicken more as they cool.
STEP 5: When you are ready to serve, garnish with fresh cilantro and queso fresco.

This is just what I needed, and I hate to run to the store for 1 item for nachos! I always seem to run out when I'm making that or tacos.
I made the spinach mushroom quesadilla s two days ago, had forgotten avocado, but subbed in red pepper hummus. They were fabulous.
