You don't need luck when you have this Shamrock Protein Shake in your life!
St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner...you know what that means?! Yea, me neither. I've never really partaken in the usual "St. Patty's Day" shenanigans, so I'll probably be chilling at home. It's sad to say, even while living in Boston I missed out on the parties. The holiday always seemed to fall on spring break so I would be home in Texas.
Oh well...it was probably for the best. Who knows what kind of trouble I would have gotten myself into. (Just kidding mom & dad).
Now that things are a little different...you know becoming an adult, being responsible, having kids and stuff...I decided to make a fun green drink that we all can enjoy this holiday! My Shamrock Protein Shake is an ultra-creamy, guilt-free shake that is packed with protein and nutrients. It's the perfect high protein breakfast or snack.
I'm pretty sure peppermint and chocolate where made for each other. They go hand in hand, almost as much as chocolate and peanut butter, but that's an entirely different story.
This recipe, has nothing but pure and simple ingredients, including the addition of OWYN Protein Powder.
I recently came across OWYN (Only What You Need) at a Gluten Free & Allergen Free Expo in San Diego and fell in love. They have created this delicious protein that is 100% plant based. No dairy, no artificial ingredients, no animal products, nada! I personally love the Dark Chocolate flavor, which is what I used in this recipe.
HOW DO I MAKE A SHAMROCK PROTEIN SHAKE?
To create this recipe, I blended two different layers separately. *Note, this recipe is for two servings, or one realllly large smoothie. (I like to keep the 2nd half in the refrigerator for later).
For the peppermint layer, simply blend the following ingredients until you have a smooth texture:
- 1 banana
- ½ avocado
- 1 cup fresh spinach
- ½ cup almond milk
- ½ teaspoon peppermint extract
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- desired amount of ice
To create the chocolate layer, blend together the following ingredients:
- ¾ cup almond milk
- 1 scoop OWYN Dark Chocolate
- desired amount of ice
When you are finished blending, poor the chocolate layer in your cup first followed by the peppermint layer. Top your smoothie with carob chips (if you want to keep it completely vegan) or chocolate chips.

Shamrock Protein Shake
Ingredients
Peppermint Layer
- 1 banana
- ½ avocado
- 1 cup fresh spinach
- ½ cup almond milk
- ½ teaspoon peppermint extract
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- desired amount of ice
Chocolate Layer
- ¾ cup almond milk
- 1 scoop OWYN Chocolate
- desired amount of ice
- Optional topping: carob chips(or chocolate chips)
Instructions
- Blend ingredients for each layer separately.
- Poor chocolate layer in first, followed by peppermint layer.
- Top with desired amount of carob chips or chocolate chips.
