Howdy, y'all! I hope you are having a fine & dandy day so far. Ok, sorry...that may have been a little too southern for you. But I sincerely hope your day is going well! Sometimes I just have to let my Texas roots come out. You know what they say, "You can take the girl out of the south, but you can't take the south out of the girl." That is especially true when it comes to cooking.
There is nothing more southern than waking up to a heaping bowl of grits, am I right? Sadly, we all know grits is not the most "nutritious" dish out there. They can be hard to avoid when you are trying to watch your weight.
Luckily, today I am here to tell you that you can make a healthy version of your favorite breakfast food and have it be just as delicious.

My recipe for Sweet Southern Grits creates the perfect combination of flavors. You get to enjoy the creamy texture of grits that we all love, with the addition of natural honey and sweet Ocean Spray® Craisins® Original Dried Cranberries.
***Fair warning...This recipe may bother some of my fellow southerners. Grits are normally a salty breakfast dish, served along side bacon and eggs, while oatmeal is the sweet option, served with fruit and syrup. But today I decided to do a little swapping around. Just think of it as opposite day!***
HOW DO I MAKE SWEET SOUTHERN GRITS?
Start by bringing 2 cups of unsweetened vanilla almond milk and 1 cup of water to a boil. Next add ¾ cup of quick cooking grits and ½ teaspoon of salt. Bring the heat down to low and continue to stir the grits while they cook.
Once you have a creamy consistency (should take approximately 5 minutes), remove the pot from your stove and stir in 2 tablespoon of honey and ⅔ cup of Craisins® Dried Cranberries.

When you are ready to serve, spoon the grits into individual bowls. (This recipe should make approximately 4 servings.) Feel free to top your Sweet Southern Grits with additional Craisins® Dried Cranberries and 1-2 tablespoon of your favorite granola, for a little added crunch.

I'm pretty sure Craisins® Dried Cranberries make any and every recipe taste better. They add the perfect amount of pizzazz to make your meals more exciting.
