Grilling season is in full effect, so I wanted to share an easy recipe that anyone can make. These Sweet & Smokey Grilled Tofu skewers are an essential recipe not only for summer, but all year long around here. Top it over rice, along with a light side, for a deliciously satisfying meal!
WHAT INGREDIENTS DO I NEED?
- 1 14 oz firm or extra firm tofu
- 2 tablespoon Mazola® Corn Oil
- 2 tablespoon agave
- 2 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
- ½ tsp garlic salt
- ½ teaspoon chili powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder

HOW DO I MAKE SWEET & SMOKEY GRILLED TOFU?
To start, you want to make sure you drain and press your tofu. This will help get most of the liquid out of the tofu before you add any type of marinade.
How do you press tofu?
Well, it’s really easy and you don’t need a fancy tofu press to do it. I simply, wrap a block of tofu in a dish towel (or paper towels) and set it on a plate. Add a cast iron skillet on top (or something equally heavy) and let it press/drain for about an hour or so. You can also pat dry to remove any excess moisture on the surface.

To create your marinade, whisk together the following ingredients:
- 2 tablespoon Mazola Corn Oil
- 2 tablespoon agave
- 2 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
- ½ teaspoon garlic salt
- ½ teaspoon chili powder
- ½ teaspoon onion power
Pour the marinade over your tofu, then store in an airtight container for at least an hour. (I let mine sit in the refrigerator overnight).
Mazola Corn Oil is a heart-healthy* cooking oil and creates marinades that make great-tasting food because it has a neutral taste that lets the natural flavor of your food stand out. It also has a high smoke point (450˚ F), which is great for grilling and stir frying at high temperatures.

When you are ready to cook, add the tofu to your grill and cook for about 2 minutes on each side, or until there are visible grill marks. If the tofu begins to burn, lower the heat on your grill. (Personally, I like a little more char on mine).
Carefully, remove the skewers from heat and serve with your favorite sides.

Whether you are making this Sweet & Smokey Grilled Tofu or your favorite barbecue recipe, Mazola® Corn Oil is a perfect choice for marinades. Fire up that grill and get cooking!
