Whether its for pizza, spaghetti, soup or meatloaf, this quick recipe to make pasta sauce out of ketchup is a life-saver!
It may seem strange, but trust me, this "how-to" for making pasta sauce out of ketchup is heaven sent.
Recently, I made a batch of my Quinoa & Turkey Stuffed Peppers with this recipe and it turned out delicious. I was secretly happy I didn't run back to the store for another jar of marinara, when I was able to make a simple replacement with the ketchup sitting in my refrigerator.
WHAT INGREDIENTS DO I NEED?
While this specific recipe makes a small batch of sauce, feel free to double it up if necessary.
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 2 teaspoon dry minced onions
- 2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 2 teaspoon dry basil
- salt & pepper to taste
- 2-3 tablespoon water
HOW DO I MAKE PASTA SAUCE OUT OF KETCHUP?
Step 1: Begin to heat olive oil and garlic in a skillet over medium heat.
Step 2: Once the garlic becomes fragrant, stir in ketchup, onions, Italian seasoning and basil. Lower heat to a low simmer.
Step 3: Depending on how thin you would like your sauce, stir in 2-3 tablespoon of water. Stirring often, continue to simmer for another 10 minutes.
Step 4: Remove from heat and use as desired.
